You do that by marketing the product for them, usually through your own websites, blogs, and writing content for online directories and article websites. You'll get an affiliate link, so that when people who surf your site or article click on it to buy the product, the company knows that the sale came from you, and you earn the commission. It's a win win situation. The companies get a wider market for their products and advertising they only have to pay for when it makes a sale, and you get to make money without the need to have a product or service of your own to offer. And there's no initial investment required on your part, other than maybe buying some domain names.
Now like any legitimate business opportunity, affiliate marketing is not for people who are looking to get rich overnight. In fact, there is no legitimate technique to get rich overnight!
