Acer, the computer giant., no bodies fool when it comes to competing in the laptop arena, plans to come into the ebook book reader arena later on this year.

Acer senior manager Jim Wong, leader of the company's IT Goods division, outlined the tactics all through an interview with Bloomberg at Acer's headquaters in Taipei.

On the eve of Apple's alleged entrance into the tablet sweeps-a device that would serve e-book readers with others-Wong also said the company will also offer "hundreds" of apps online, programs which can support Google's Android platform, currently running on a number of Acer products, over and above handling Microsoft's Windows OS.

By July, Acer is projected to make available an electronic-book reader with a 6-inch black and white screen, Mr. Wong informed Bloomberg. "Kindle and B and N; they are U.S.-centric. In Europe and Australasia we have publishers to work with, and most of them are content owners," he maintained. Acer would go up against devices including the Amazon Kindle , Barnes & Noble Inc.'s Nook and Sony's Ereader and so it will be easy to compare ebook reader models.

Acer also has the Apple "iSlate"-when it appears-to contend with. "We're producing something, and we should see what occures" J.T. Wang, Acer's president, maintained in the report. "We are certain to work moreover within the Windows world or within Google's distinct OS space."
